Wedding checklist: 10-11 months before

With the date and venue booked, the people come next: who stands with you, who's on the final list, and where out-of-town guests will sleep. Save-the-dates are ordered now so they're ready to mail in a few months.

The 8 tasks for 10-11 months before

  1. Choose bridal party

Ask the people you want beside you, and tell them what you're hoping they'll do.

  2. Shop wedding attire

Start trying things on; made-to-order pieces need months.

  3. Finalize guest list

Turn the draft into the real list, with every household and plus-one decided.

  4. Book hotel room blocks

Hold rooms near the venue for out-of-town guests before the date fills up.

  5. Set up registries

Guests ask about gifts as soon as the save-the-dates land.

  6. Schedule engagement photos

Useful for save-the-dates, and a chance to get used to your photographer.

  7. Order save the dates

Order them once the list is final, so you print the right number.

  8. Collect guest addresses

Ask for mailing addresses now; invitations need them in a few months.

These are the tasks in the “10-11 months before” group of the free wedding checklist. Put in your wedding date there and each one gets its own due date, with anything already late marked overdue.

What should already be done

This stage leans on these. If one is still open, do it first.

And the rest of the earlier groups: 12+ months before. Anything left over can still be caught up.

Questions

What should I do 10 to 11 months before the wedding?
The checklist has 8 tasks for this stage: choose bridal party, shop wedding attire, finalize guest list, book hotel room blocks, set up registries, schedule engagement photos, order save the dates and collect guest addresses.
What should already be done by 10 months out?
The tasks this stage depends on: draft guest list, choose wedding date, book ceremony & venue, book photographer and decide theme & style. Anything else left from earlier groups can still be caught up.
When should save-the-dates be ordered?
Order them around 10 to 11 months out, once the guest list is final, so they're printed and addressed in time to mail about 6 to 8 months before the wedding (or earlier for a destination wedding). The checklist puts mailing them in the 3-month group as the latest safe point.
