Import your wedding spreadsheet

Already started a spreadsheet? Pick your planning workbook and see everything arrive before you sign up: your guests, budget, vendors and tasks, laid out the way Linenfold keeps them. Your file stays in this browser until you choose to keep it.

Choose your spreadsheet

  1. Choose file
  2. Preview
  3. Save

Your file stays in this browser. Nothing is sent to Linenfold until you choose to keep it in a free account, and then only the rows that come across.

What comes across

  • Guest List
  • Wedding Party
  • Budget categories and target
  • Payment log
  • Venue Options and ratings
  • Vendor Comparison
  • Vendor Questions
  • Tasks
  • Appointments
  • Calendar entries
  • Food & Drinks dishes
  • Logistics: guest travel, vendor delivery and emergency contacts

What stays behind

Formulas (we keep the values they show), charts, images, macros, links to other files, and tabs Linenfold doesn't have yet.

From Google Sheets: File → Download → Microsoft Excel (.xlsx). From Numbers: File → Export To → Excel.

How to use it

Most couples start planning in a spreadsheet, and by the time it gets hard to share it holds months of work. This tool shows you what bringing that work to Linenfold would look like before you sign up for anything. Pick your file and you'll see your own guests, budget, vendors and tasks as they would land, with nothing guessed at and nothing dropped without a reason.

  1. Download your spreadsheet as .xlsx. In Excel use File → Save As → Excel Workbook. From Google Sheets, File → Download → Microsoft Excel (.xlsx). From Numbers, File → Export To → Excel. One file with all your tabs is best.
  2. Pick the file. Drop it on the box above or choose it. It's read in this browser in a few seconds; big workbooks take a little longer. Nothing is uploaded.
  3. Check what comes across. You'll see each part of your plan, how many rows would come in, and the first few rows as Linenfold would store them. Anything that wouldn't come in is listed with the reason, and you can download those rows.
  4. Fix any matches. If a tab or column landed in the wrong place, choose Check the matches. Tabs are matched by their columns, so renamed tabs are fine; you only pick where something looks wrong.
  5. Keep it safe in a free account. Sign in with your email, name your wedding, and your rows come in as one import you can undo. Your target budget is filled in from the file.

What comes across, and what stays behind

The importer reads the guest list, the wedding party, budget categories and your target budget, your payments, venue options and their ratings, the vendor shortlist, vendor questions, tasks, appointments, key dates and dishes. Formulas come across as the values they show. Charts, images, macros, colours and links to other files stay behind, and so do tabs Linenfold has no place for, like a cover page or notes.

Tabs are matched by their columns, not their names, so “Guests”, “Invite list” and “Who's coming” all land in the guest list. A tab that holds several small tables, like a vendor sheet with one table per category, is read table by table, and each title becomes the category.

Values are tidied on the way in and every change is listed: an attending count higher than the invited count is lowered to match, a website gets its https://, a dietary note we don't have a box for goes into the guest's notes. Rows with no name are left out and listed, never dropped quietly.

Is my file private?

Yes. The file is read by this page, in your browser, and isn't uploaded. When you choose to keep it in a free account, the rows that come across are kept in this browser while you sign in, for a day at most, then moved into your new wedding and cleared. Guests' contact details are encrypted once they're in your account. Choose Forget my file at any time and nothing is left behind.

Once you're in, the same importer lives in Settings, so you can bring in a newer copy later; rows you already have are recognised and skipped. If you're still deciding, the free seating chart maker, budget calculator and wedding checklist work without an account too, and pricing lists what Complete adds.

Questions couples ask

Does it work with Google Sheets or Numbers?
Yes, once the file is downloaded as .xlsx. Older .xls files and password-protected workbooks can't be read; open them and save as Excel Workbook first.
What if my columns have different names?
Most common names are recognised, like Names or Guest, RSVP or Response, Cost or Price. If a column isn't matched, choose Check the matches and pick where it goes.
What does the free plan hold?
Up to 75 guests and 5 venues and vendors, plus your whole budget, tasks, wedding party, appointments and questions. Payments and Food & Drinks are part of Complete, so those rows stay out on Free, and you can download them.
Will it duplicate the tasks Linenfold already has?
No. Tasks that match Linenfold's own checklist update it (done, dates, notes) instead of being added twice, and expense categories you already have get your budgets.
Can I undo it?
Yes. The whole import is one batch, and one Undo in Settings takes it back off and puts updated tasks and categories back how they were.
Is my file uploaded?
No. It's read in your browser. When you save, only the rows that come across are sent, and guests' contact details are encrypted in your account.
Do I need an account?
Not to see the preview. Keeping the rows needs a free account, so they have somewhere to live.
