Best wedding planning apps, compared fairly
Who wrote this: Linenfold made this list, and Linenfold is one of the entries. They’re in alphabetical order, every fact about the others comes from their own websites, help pages or app store listings, and each “best for” line says who that one suits, including where it suits you better than Linenfold.
Last checked October 9, 2026. Facts about Folia, Joy, The Knot, WedSites and Zola come from their own websites, help pages and app store listings on that date. Prices and features change, so check Folia, Joy, The Knot, WedSites and Zola before you decide.
There is no single best wedding planning app, because there is no single wedding planning job. Some apps are really a website and registry with planning tools attached. Some are a vendor marketplace. Some are a planning workbook and nothing else. The right one is the one that does the part you're dreading.
This list covers six apps: Linenfold and the five we've compared it with in detail, each with a "best for" line and the facts behind it. Where an app's own pages didn't confirm something, we left it out rather than guess.
At a glance

| Joy | Website, RSVPs, registry and a guest app in one free account, with unlimited guests. | Core service is free. Paid extras include a custom domain and text messaging. |

Folia
Best for: A big free guest list, detailed seating and ceremony layouts, or a planner who already works in Folia.
Folia is a planning tool, not a marketplace, and it goes deep on seating and the ceremony. Its free plan is roomy: up to 500 guests and 10 vendors.
- Phone apps
- Browser only, with no native app. The seating chart is for desktops and laptops only.
- Website and RSVP
- Not offered. RSVP status is updated by hand.
- Guest list
- Meals, plus-ones, RSVP status and addresses. Free holds up to 500 guests.
- Budget
- Planned against actual on the free plan, plus vendor payment milestones with due dates.
- Seating
- On paid plans: meal choices at each seat, plus ceremony seating and processional.
- Vendors
- Contacts, quotes, payment milestones and invoices. Free holds up to 10 vendors.
- Partner and helpers
- Owner, Editor or Viewer, each with their own login.
Weigh up: the seating chart and ceremony planner need a paid plan, and Folia says it's built for weddings in the United States. If your planner uses the Folia Planner Suite, you can join their workspace for free.
Joy
Best for: Website, RSVPs, registry and a guest app in one free account, with unlimited guests.
Joy is strongest on everything your guests see: the website, online RSVP, the registry and an app with personalized schedules, a shared photo album and hotel room blocks.
- Phone apps
- Free iOS and Android apps.
- Website and RSVP
- Free website with free online RSVP.
- Registry
- Free all-in-one registry: Joy's shop, gifts from any store and cash funds. Guests pay a 3.5% fee on card gifts to cash funds.
- Guest list
- Free, with unlimited guests.
- Address collection
- A Contact Collector link that fills in the guest list.
- Seating
- AI auto-seating from your guest list, a one-time purchase per event.
- Partner and helpers
- Collaborators get full access; extra editor accounts are free.
- Export
- The guest list exports to CSV at any time.
Weigh up: we couldn't confirm a budget, checklist or vendor tracker on Joy's own pages, so this entry leaves them out. If those matter most, check Joy's site or pair it with a planning tool.
Linenfold
Best for: Spreadsheet-minded couples who want the budget, vendors, guest list and seating in one shared workbook, paid once if at all.
We make Linenfold, so read this entry with that in mind. It is the planning workbook only, built for couples who would otherwise run the wedding from a spreadsheet.
- Phone apps
- A web app for phone and desktop browsers, with phone layouts for the checklist and seating plan. No native app.
- Website and RSVP
- Not offered. You record each guest's RSVP in the guest list.
- Guest list
- RSVP, sides, groups, tiers and dietary needs; a row can be a household. Free holds 75 rows, Complete is unlimited.
- Budget
- Category targets, contract and paid totals, charts and a headcount what-if. Logging payments needs Complete.
- Checklist
- 111 tasks dated from your wedding date, plus your own. Move the date and the due dates follow.
- Seating
- Unlimited tables on every plan, drag and drop by mouse, touch or keyboard, a waiting list and print.
- Vendors
- Comparison grid, weighted venue rating and a confirmed list. Free holds 5 vendors.
- Partner and helpers
- Separate logins with roles. Free: your partner. Complete: four people.
- Import
- Bring your planning spreadsheet: the free importer previews an .xlsx in your browser, no login, and saves it to a free account.
- Export
- The whole wedding as JSON or CSVs, on every plan.
Weigh up: no wedding website, online RSVP, registry or vendor marketplace; no native app, and it needs a connection. The free plan holds 75 guest rows and five vendors, so a big list means Complete. You can try the seating chart maker, budget calculator and spreadsheet importer without an account.
The Knot
Best for: Finding vendors, with a large marketplace of reviews and quote requests, plus free iOS and Android apps.
The Knot is the place to go looking for vendors, with planning tools and a website alongside.
- Phone apps
- Free iOS and Android apps. The Knot says the app isn't offered to international users.
- Website and RSVP
- Free website with RSVP that updates the guest list. A custom domain is US$19.99 a year.
- Registry
- All-in-one: its own store, retailer registries, cash and experience funds, charities. Card gifts to cash funds carry a 2.5% fee.
- Vendor marketplace
- Large, with reviews and quote requests. Vendors can buy placement, and paying vendors may be recommended in the tools.
- Guest list
- Free, with contact and spreadsheet import. No limit published.
- Address collection
- A Collect Address Link that adds answers to the guest list.
- Budget
- Budget Advisor estimates costs from what couples spend and splits a goal budget by category.
- Checklist
- Customizable: add, remove and reorder tasks.
- Vendors
- Save, organize and compare vendors; messaging works only with vendors listed on The Knot.
- Export
- The guest list downloads as a table, as address labels or as a table of RSVP responses.
Weigh up: partners share one login for now (The Knot says multi-user access is in the works), and the tools work in US dollars only.
WedSites
Best for: A polished wedding website with planning tools for one payment, and room for up to 16 people on Pro.
WedSites is a website builder first, with a full set of planning tools on its top plan.
- Phone apps
- No dedicated mobile app.
- Website and RSVP
- Themes and custom domains; publishing needs Basic, and online RSVP comes with Standard.
- Registry
- No registry of its own; the website links to any registry, cash fund or charity.
- Guest list
- Unlimited guests on Standard and Pro.
- Address collection
- A Collect Details form, on Standard and Pro.
- Budget
- Estimated and actual costs, paid status and vendor payment due dates, on Pro.
- Checklist
- Recommended tasks plus your own, on Pro.
- Seating
- Drag-and-drop seating chart, on Pro.
- Vendors
- Contacts, contract details and costs, on Pro.
- Partner and helpers
- At least 2 users on every plan; 4 on Standard and 16 on Pro.
- Export
- Guests, RSVPs and the budget as spreadsheets, and the website as a static HTML backup.
Weigh up: hosting lasts a set period by plan, and after it ends the account is removed within 12 months unless you extend it. It has no vendor directory, so you find vendors elsewhere.
Zola
Best for: One free account for the website, registry and planning, especially on an iPhone.
Zola puts a website, a registry, a vendor marketplace and planning tools under one free account.
- Phone apps
- Free iOS app. No Android app; Android users use zola.com.
- Website and RSVP
- Free website with online RSVP. Custom domains from $17.99.
- Registry
- Gifts, experiences and cash funds. Guests pay a 2.5% fee on card gifts to cash funds unless the couple absorbs it.

- Guest list
- Free, tracks RSVPs. No limit stated.
- Address collection
- A contact collector link guests fill in themselves.
- Budget
- Free budget tool with expense tracking and due-date reminders.
- Checklist
- Customizable, about 12 months back from the date.
- Seating
- On the iOS app and desktop, with a print-ready PDF.
- Vendors
- Favourite vendors, mark them booked, and add booked US-based vendors not on Zola.
- Export
- Guest list, addresses and RSVPs as .csv or Excel, from a desktop.
Weigh up: it's a joint account for the couple with no separate planner logins.
How to choose
- Start from the job you're dreading. Website and RSVPs: Zola or Joy. Finding vendors: The Knot. Seating and the ceremony: Folia. Money, vendors and a shared workbook: Linenfold.
- Count your guests before you pick a free plan. Free guest lists run from 75 rows (Linenfold) to 500 guests (Folia) to unlimited (Joy), and a big list changes the maths.
- Check where you'll use it. Some apps live on your phone, some in a browser, and some features are desktop only.
- Mixing is normal. Plenty of couples run the website and registry in one app and plan in another. If your plan lives in a spreadsheet today, read spreadsheet vs app first.
Questions
- Which wedding planning app is the best?
- It depends on the job. For a website, RSVPs and a registry in one free account, look at Zola or Joy. For finding vendors, The Knot runs a large marketplace with reviews and quote requests. For detailed seating and ceremony layouts, Folia. For a budget built on vendor contracts, vendor comparison and a free seating plan, Linenfold.
- Which wedding planning apps are free?
- Zola's planning tools are free, The Knot's online tools and app are free, and Joy's core service is free. Folia and Linenfold have free plans with limits and paid upgrades. WedSites has no free plan you can publish; its one-time plans start at US$39.
- Which ones have a phone app?
- The Knot and Joy have iOS and Android apps, and Zola has an iOS app. Folia, WedSites and Linenfold run in the browser with no native app; Linenfold's phone layouts cover the checklist and seating plan.
- Why is Linenfold on its own list?
- Because we make it, and couples compare it with these apps. We say so at the top, list the six in alphabetical order, take every fact about another app from that app's own pages with the date we checked, and say who each one suits, including where Linenfold isn't the best choice.
