Best wedding seating chart tools, compared

Who wrote this: Linenfold made this list, and Linenfold is one of the entries. They’re in alphabetical order, every fact about the others comes from their own websites, help pages or app store listings, and each “best for” line says who that one suits, including where it suits you better than Linenfold.

Last checked October 9, 2026. Facts about Folia, Joy, The Knot, WedSites and Zola come from their own websites, help pages and app store listings on that date. Prices and features change, so check Folia, Joy, The Knot, WedSites and Zola before you decide.

The seating chart is the last big puzzle of wedding planning, and it arrives just as the RSVPs do. A good tool lets you drag people around, see which tables are full, keep track of who isn't seated yet, and print the result for the venue.

This list covers six seating chart tools: Linenfold's and those of the five planning apps we've compared it with in detail, each with a "best for" line and the facts behind it. Where a maker's own pages didn't confirm something (a price, a feature), we say so rather than guess.

Folia

Best for: Seating and the ceremony together: meal choices at each seat, ceremony seating and the processional, on a desktop.

Folia's seating chart goes further than the others here on detail: it shows each guest's meal at their seat and adds ceremony seating and the processional. It's part of Folia's paid plans.

Seating
Drag-and-drop reception seating with meal choices at each seat, plus ceremony seating and processional, on paid plans.
Where it works
In the browser, on desktops and laptops only.
Guest list
Meals, plus-ones, RSVP status and addresses. Free holds up to 500 guests.
RSVPs
No online RSVP; you update each guest's status by hand.

Weigh up: you'll need a laptop or desktop to build the chart, and a paid plan to use it.

Joy

Best for: Seating a long guest list automatically, next to Joy's website and RSVPs.

Joy's seating chart can seat your guest list for you: set up the tables and room layout, and its AI seats everyone from what you've already entered.

Seating
AI auto-seating from your guest list, sold as a one-time purchase per event.
Apps
Free iOS and Android apps.
Guest list
Free, with unlimited guests.
RSVPs
Free online RSVP on a free website.

Weigh up: the seating chart is a separate purchase on top of Joy's free tools, so check its price on Joy before you start.

Linenfold

Best for: A free chart with unlimited tables that works on a phone, with or without an account.

We make Linenfold, so read this entry with that in mind. The seating chart maker is free and needs no account; save it to a free account and the tables and guests move into a full seating plan.

Seating
Unlimited tables on every plan, drag and drop by mouse, touch or keyboard, a waiting list and print. Free prints end with a small Linenfold credit.
Where it works
Phone and desktop browsers, with a phone layout for the seating plan. No native app.
Without an account
The seating chart maker works without signing up and can be saved into a new free account.
Guest list
RSVP, sides, groups, tiers and dietary needs; a row can be a household. Free holds 75 rows, Complete is unlimited.
RSVPs
No online RSVP; you record each guest's answer in the guest list.

Weigh up: it doesn't seat people for you, it has no ceremony or processional layout, and guests don't RSVP online. Inside the app, the free plan holds 75 guest rows, so a bigger list means Complete.

The Knot

Best for: Couples already planning in The Knot's app who want seating in the same place.

The Knot's iOS app listing advertises interactive seating arrangements. Its help pages we checked don't describe the seating tool further, so try it in the app before you count on a particular feature.

Seating
Interactive seating arrangements, as advertised on the iOS app listing.
Apps
Free iOS and Android apps. Not offered to international users.
Guest list
Free, with contact and spreadsheet import. No limit published.
RSVPs
RSVPs from the free website update the guest list.

Weigh up: the details are thin on The Knot's own pages, and the app isn't offered outside the US.

WedSites

Best for: Couples buying WedSites Pro for the website who want seating in the same account.

WedSites includes a drag-and-drop seating chart on its Pro plan, next to the website, guest list and RSVPs.

Seating
Drag-and-drop seating chart, on Pro.
Apps
No dedicated mobile app.
Guest list
Unlimited guests on Standard and Pro.
RSVPs
Online RSVP from the Standard plan up.

Weigh up: seating needs the top plan, so it's best if you want the WedSites website anyway.

Zola

Best for: Couples already on Zola who want a print-ready PDF, from the iOS app or a desktop.

Zola's seating chart sits next to its guest list, website and registry, and prints to a PDF.

Seating
On the iOS app and desktop, with a print-ready PDF.
Apps
Free iOS app. No Android app; Android users use zola.com.
Guest list
Free, tracks RSVPs. No limit stated.
RSVPs
Online RSVP on a free website.

Weigh up: there's no Android app, and the pages we checked don't say whether the seating chart costs extra.

Before you pick a tool

  • Know your table sizes. Round tables of eight or ten change the count fast; the guide to table sizes and guests per table has the numbers.
  • Sort the tricky seats first. Family, exes and the friends who don't know anyone: the seating etiquette guide covers who goes where.
  • Do it in stages. Seat the sure things, keep a waiting list for the maybes, and finish after the RSVP deadline. The step-by-step seating chart guide walks through it.
  • Try before you commit. Linenfold's seating chart maker needs no account, so you can test it on your own list before signing up anywhere.

Questions

Is there a free wedding seating chart tool?
Yes. Linenfold's seating chart maker is free and works without an account, and the seating plan inside Linenfold is free on every plan. Zola and The Knot say their planning tools are free. Joy's seating chart is a one-time purchase per event, Folia keeps its seating chart for paid plans, and WedSites includes one on its Pro plan.
Which seating chart tools work on a phone?
Linenfold's works by touch in a phone browser. Zola's is on its iOS app as well as the desktop site, and The Knot's iOS app listing advertises interactive seating. Folia says its seating chart is for desktops and laptops only.
Can a tool seat my guests automatically?
Joy's seating chart can seat your guest list automatically with AI. Linenfold doesn't assign seats for you: you drag guests to tables, and anyone not yet placed waits on a list so nobody gets lost.
