How to use it
A honeymoon budget is a short list with two columns: what you plan to spend on each thing, and what you actually spend. This calculator starts you with the lines most trips need, in six groups from passports to souvenirs, so you only have to fill in the numbers.
- Set the total. Start from what's left after the wedding, not the average.
- Split it. Use a typical split, then fix the flights and the stay to real quotes.
- Add your own lines. A cooking class, a ferry, a night somewhere special.
- Track it on the trip. Type what you spend on your phone and watch what's left.
Reading the numbers
Use a typical split shares your total out the way most couples spend it: 35% on where you stay, 27% on getting there, 17% on food and drinks, 10% on things to do, 6% on getting ready and 5% on shopping. Lodging usually takes 35 to 50% of a honeymoon budget, according to Zola's honeymoon cost guide, and flights are the next biggest line. The split is a starting point: replace the flights and the hotel with real quotes first, because they move everything else.
Planned is what you mean to spend on a line, and Spent is what has gone out. The bar on each group shows how much of its plan is spent, and the summary adds every line up.
Left to spend is your total minus what you've spent, the figure to watch on the trip. Not yet planned is your total minus your plan: money you haven't given a job yet. If the plan goes over the total, or the spending does, the summary says by how much.

Questions couples ask
- How do you make a honeymoon budget?
- Start with the total you can spend, split it across the six groups, then adjust the two biggest, flights and where you stay, to the trip you have in mind. Log what you spend as you go.
- What percentage goes on flights and hotels?
- Usually about two thirds: around 35% on where you stay and 25 to 30% on getting there. Food is the next biggest, at about 15 to 20%.
- Can I download it as a spreadsheet?
- Yes. Download as a spreadsheet gives you a CSV that opens in Excel, Numbers and Google Sheets.
- Does the honeymoon budget change with the currency?
- It shows the amounts in the currency you pick. It doesn't convert them.
- Is my budget saved?
