A Joy alternative for the planning side

Last checked October 9, 2026. Facts about Joy come from its own website and help pages on that date. Prices and features change, so check Joy’s site before you decide.

Joy is a free, friendly home for the guest-facing side of a wedding: a website with online RSVP, a registry, invitations and apps your guests can use on the day. Linenfold covers the other side, the planning workbook behind it: the budget, guest list, seating, vendors and checklist.

Plenty of couples will want something from each. Here is what each one offers, from Joy's own pages and app listings and from what Linenfold ships today. Where we couldn't confirm something on Joy's own pages, we left it out of the table.

Where Joy is the better fit

  • Your guests are the priority. Joy gives you a free website, online RSVP and a registry, and its app gives guests personal schedules and a shared photo album. Joy can also arrange hotel room blocks. Linenfold has no guest-facing features beyond its address form.
  • You want a native app. Joy has free iOS and Android apps.
  • You want to pay nothing for the basics. Joy's core service is free with unlimited guests; Linenfold's free plan holds 75 guest rows.
  • You want help seating people. Joy's seating chart can seat your whole list automatically, as a paid one-time purchase. Linenfold's seating plan is free but you seat people yourself.

Where Linenfold fits

  • You need to run the money. Category targets, vendor contracts, what's left to spend and a headcount what-if that shows how many guests your budget can carry.
  • You want a checklist and a vendor shortlist in the same place as the guest list. Linenfold keeps the 111-task checklist, vendor comparison and seating plan in one shared workspace.
  • You want seating included. Unlimited tables, drag and drop and printing on every plan.

The short version

Choose Joy for the website, RSVPs, registry and the guest experience. Choose Linenfold for the budget, vendors and the planning behind them. If you use both, the two don't connect, so you'd keep the guest list in each (Linenfold imports a CSV, and Joy exports one).

Questions

Can I use Joy and Linenfold together?
Yes. Joy covers the website, RSVPs and registry; Linenfold covers the budget, vendors, checklist and seating. They don't sync, so you'd move the guest list between them by CSV: Joy exports one and Linenfold imports one.
Is Linenfold's seating chart free?
Yes, on every plan, with unlimited tables; prints on the free plan end with a small Linenfold credit. Joy's seating chart is a one-time purchase per event and can seat your list automatically.
Does Linenfold limit the guest list?
The free plan holds 75 guest rows, and one row can be a whole household. Complete removes the cap. Joy's guest list is free with unlimited guests.
