The Knot alternative without a marketplace

Last checked October 9, 2026. Facts about The Knot come from its own website and help pages on that date. Prices and features change, so check The Knot’s site before you decide.

The Knot is the largest name in US wedding planning: a vendor marketplace, a free wedding website and registry, a checklist and native apps, all in one free account. Linenfold does a smaller job. It is a planning workbook for the budget, guest list, seating, vendors and checklist, with no marketplace attached.

Both are reasonable choices, and they suit different couples. Here is what each one offers, from The Knot's own help centre and app listings and from what Linenfold ships today.

Where The Knot is the better fit

  • You're still finding vendors. The Knot's marketplace lets you search, read reviews and request quotes in one place. Linenfold has no vendor directory; it helps you compare the vendors you've already found.
  • You want the guest-facing pieces too. A free wedding website with online RSVP and an all-in-one registry come with the account.
  • You want a native app. The Knot has free iOS and Android apps for US couples.
  • You want everything free. The Knot's tools are free; some Linenfold limits (75 guest rows, five vendors, logging payments) need Complete.

Where Linenfold fits

  • You want your own login. On Linenfold you and your partner each sign in as yourselves, with owner, editor or viewer roles. The Knot asks couples to share one login for now.
  • You want to track what you've paid. Linenfold's budget follows contracts and payments vendor by vendor, with what's left to spend and what's left to budget. (Logging payments is part of Complete.)
  • You plan outside the US. Each Linenfold wedding picks its own currency, while The Knot's tools work in US dollars.
  • You'd rather nobody sells to you. No marketplace, no paid placement, and a full export of your wedding at any time.

The short version

Choose The Knot if you want vendor discovery, a website, a registry and apps in one free US account. Choose Linenfold if you've found your vendors and want a shared, private workbook for the money, the guest list and the seating plan. You can also use both: a website and registry from one, planning in the other.
